Married (9-22-84) to Stephanie (Will)... three children - Sarah, Matthew, Christian. Enjoy family... football... biking... yard work. Joined the St. Paul staff in July 1999.
Currently in my 18th year of parish ministry. Before moving served at Grace Lutheran Church / Orangevale, CA (Sacramento area) for almost 10 years.

I came to St. Paul on Oct. 4, 1999. I have attended several seminars to help improve the appearance of publications for the church during my time here. St. Paul has also allowed me to attend a class at McLennan Community College entitled, English for Careers. I have greatly enjoyed my time here at St. Paul and look forward to many more years of meeting new people and helping to spread God’s love.

Born in Beaumont, TX. Studied at Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, IL. Ordained in 1971. Has served St. Paul Lutheran Church as Pastor for over 30 years. Pastor A embarked on semi-retirement Dec. 31, 2004. He now serves St. Paul in a part-time capacity, preaching, teaching, and caring for souls.

Assoc. Pastor - Youth & Family, Rev. Matthew Canion
Rev. Canion grew up in Waterloo, Iowa. After his first year of high school, his family moved to Texas where he attended Burkburnett High School (1995), and then Midwestern State University (1999). He entered Concordia Seminary, Saint Louis, Missouri, in 2000. While studying to obtain his Master's Degree, he was involved in several youth groups. His theological interests include apologetics (i.e. Da Vinci Code studies), bioethics (biology & medicine), and evolution.
On April 27, 2005, he was called to be the Associate Pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Warren, Michigan. Pastor Canion was ordained and installed at Holy Cross on July 17, 2005. His duties at the church included the areas of youth and family. While serving at Holy Cross, Pastor Matt coached at Warren Mott High School for two years as the Assistant Varsity Softball Coach, as well as being active in the Mott Booster Club.
On December 31, 2004, Pastor Canion married his wife, Kimberly Whitney, in Standish, Michigan.
On October 19, 2008, Pastor Canion was installed as Associate Pastor of Youth & Family Ministry at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
In the office Pastor Matt enjoys working with youth and young families, preparing worship services, and teaching. Outside the office Pastor Matt can be seen at sporting events, air shows, rugged trails, and trying to avoid crashing his computer.
